Dixon Tribune Archives & Brevities

Two interesting websites just added that should be of interest to local history buffs. The first link is to the Dixon Public Library archives, which contains a treasure-trove of local historical information to include oral histories and  Ardeth Riedel's "Brevities" and the second is the link to the 1885 through1886 county business directory of Humboldt, Marin, Napa, Yolo, Lake, Solano, Mendocino, and Sonoma counties. The two links are:

Brevites

"Brevities", compiled by Ardeth Riedel,  is a HUGE extraction from most of the existing Tribune issues from 1874 through 1950 or so, and it is searchable. This database is remarkable for both its size and the scope of non-business related information, although there is some business-related information is included.

DIXON HISTORICAL SOCIETY LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Since time immemorial, the land where Dixon and it's surrounding areas is located has been the home of the Wintun Tribal people, also known as Patwin.  Today, there are three federally-recognized Wintun tribes: Cachil Dehe Band of Wintun Indians of the Colusa Indian Community, Kletsel Dehe Band of Wintun Indians and Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation.  We are honored and grateful to be here today on their traditional lands.  The Dixon Historical Society is committed to recognizing and celebrating the culture and language of the Wintun tribal people.
